 At Prakalpa, we strongly believe that Managing Resources, Assessing Risks and Measuring Outcomes are key essentials in any Social Sector Programs. Managing these social sector programs require specific skills and expertise in project management which is no different from skills required for executing projects in the corporate business. In social sector context program managers are required to manage a wide range of projects both long and short term on large and small scale in partnership with other agencies covering a broad range of issues and challenges.     

In India with upward trend of opportunities for growth in the social sector supported with funding tractions by Corporate Social Responsibility policies there is increasing demand for compliance, governance, and efficient program management and sustainability.   

With Prakalpa team’s collective experience, we have brought together a comprehensive set of knowledge enhancement sessions and workshops to build capacity and competence in social sector organizations. The sessions are structured with a practitioner’s approach with detailed case studies demonstrating project management concepts in action with reflective activities, practical tools, techniques, and templates. The sessions and workshops are classified into 3 levels (Basic, Advanced & Leadership) to provide a progressive learning for the functional roles.  The topics covered in these program management knowledge enhancement sessions cover the complete end -to-end life cycle of various activities in the social sector organization starting from need analysis, proposal writing, getting funds, project planning, project execution, monitoring and control, project reporting etc.  all the way through the delivery of benefits and measurement of outcomes and sustainability.

We believe our initiative will enhance the skill & knowledge base in Social Sector for efficient usage of funds and meeting their project goals more effectively, achieve impactful & sustainable outcomes which could relate to some of the global Sustainable Development 

The CSR mandate has undoubtedly provided lot of support to the social sector in the last few years, to overcome certain financial challenges, however the gaps in managerial and organizational capabilities of the social sector continue to be a barrier. When interacting with corporates, social sector organizations need expertise to provide a strong business case with appropriately framed proposal, solution, and execution.      

The challenging part that social sector organizations face is in program management. After funding a specific project, corporates have high expectations when it comes to execution, quality of data reporting, information management, impact analysis and structured reporting formats and so on while the social sector organizations often struggle to comprehend these requirements and providing them.    

With Prakalpa team’s collective experience, we have brought together a suite of services to bridge the above gap in solutioning and program management. In an increasingly interconnected and technological world, organizations rely on digital technology and social media to locate information, and access services. From CSR funding organizations there is an increasing demand for social sector organizations to be technology savvy and can effectively communicate, collaborate, and connect using technology.     

Social Sector Organizations face many systemic challenges in adoption of digital technologies, both from an investment standpoint and being able to employ technology talent. However, professionals in the field of social work cannot ignore these new norms of digital environment. Clearly there is a need for solutions to assist the social sector organizations with technology and capacity building through cost effective models and end-to-end digitization.    

After detail study and analysis of various representative projects across social sector, Prakalpa team has brought together a software application package “ePustika” incorporating standardized templates and workflow processes for typical project / program scenarios. Hosted on cloud platform, the package provides flexibility to parameterize and customize based on the social sector organization needs with inbuilt data repository and controls.

Connected by technology, knowledge networks allow people to build social networks and transfer knowledge. There are several forums providing opportunity for social sector organizations to participate however they are oriented towards addressing the collective social needs. It is hard to find forums in social sector where project learning, case studies, project artifacts and templates are shared as reusable elements.   

Thus, for any typical project scenario, most social sector organizations land up starting from scratch reinventing the wheel. Implementing knowledge management strategies is a challenge for social sector organization which extensively use volunteer’s workforce despite understanding its relevance and potential positive impacts.
