Structured Approach to Preparing Winning Proposal

Overview

Proposing is an act of putting forwards or stating something for consideration. A proposal is a plan or suggestion, especially a formal or written one, put forward with an intent of convincing others to make a favorable decision for the central idea. The idea could be appeal for funds, seeking approvals for project, exploring a partnership, how one meets the expectation of stakeholder (s), alignment with the purposes or  goals of another organization etc. In the end a process of proposal making & interactions should result in win win for the proposer and acceptor.

A strategic proposal is that when both the parties gain substantial progress towards their vision, mission & objectives.

Proposal is just not the expression of an abstract central idea but description & elaboration of pathways of how they will be realized for achieving the common objectives, stated or un stated. They should include the resources (Machines, Men, Methods, Materials, Money) to be applied in the process of that realization.

Proposal should be a bridge for mitigating risks for the proposer and the acceptor to achieve a WIN WIN Solution.

Thus, preparing & winning proposal could be be akin to the art of navigating & landing Helicopter safely at a common destination despite uncertainties & dependencies. The process not only needs a capable flying machine (organization core competencies) but managing critical factors like terrain of landing site (Social / Community Needs), weather conditions (risks / uncertainties / economic turbulences / visibility of needs) and the skill & experience of the pilot (Leadership).
